Major Project starting point (DEMA!)
If we throw it way back, Dema (which as is a starting point for my design) was first mentioned in twenty one pilots drummer Joshua Dun's speech at the APMA's (Alternative Press Music Awards) in 2017.
He then said that his bandmate, Tyler Joseph, couldn't be there as he was "severing ties with dema".
It was longer than a year before a coming out of the band's album Trench, in which they explained what Dema is.
Acording to Trench (2018) and what twenty one pilots fanbase found out so far, DEMA is a fictional organization run by nine bishops. The main one is called Nicholas Bourbaki, aka Nico and Blurryface. They created kind of a contained town, with absolute powers. Bellow you can see a map of Dema with nine round buildings in the centre, which act as dormitories and every one is controlled by a different bishop. They seem to be separated from the surrounding world.
Dema refers to a “tower of silence", which may link back to their tweets from the twenty one pilots account that showed an eye closing- with the final tweet "and now I just sit in silence." I want to make my design a calm, safe and kind of isolated place to live in.
http://dmaorg.info/ is a website which expand a whole Dema concept a little bit further.
The first image looks similar to the Tower Of Silence. However, on twenty one pilots version of the map the "E" is crossed out- like the last tweet the band ever made.
Going further, the Tower of Silence originally was once recognised as a a circular, raised structure where dead bodies were left to be exposed to vultures, revealing an image that looks very similar to the Blurryface (2015) cover.
"According to a tradition dating back over 3,000 years, bodies were arranged on the towers in three concentric circles. Men were placed in the outer circle, women in the middle, and children in the inner-most ring. Bodies were then left until their bones were bleached by the elements and stripped by the vultures."
Towers are no longer used in ceremony, but they can be visited in Yazd, Iran.
I like a repetitive use of circles and cylinders and connecting them in different positions and that's my starting point, which I want to to develop. Moreover, I want my design to be kind of an isolated, calm place to live in.
Music video for twenty one pilots song Nico and The Niners (2018) was filmed at the university in Kiev, Ukraine. The building was further digitally edited to memorize Dema.

This is a good initial post and I like that you have included your project sign off sheet. Could you add a bit of commentary at the end to highlight how you are going to use this idea and design concept in your own project? ReplyDeletePlease ensure that you are working on your presentation slides and adding process to those to show how the project is developing. I'd like to see that there are more posts on here but what is important is making sure you have a project to present in week 10.
